I produced a short film for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, exploring the powerful experiences of Dominican women living abroad, which was awarded a Mention of Honor.
Filmed entirely on a smartphone, the project emphasized the power of storytelling with accessible tools, showcasing that it’s not the equipment but the people behind the lens that make the difference.
“Olas de mi Quisqueya” told the compelling stories of Dominican women, capturing their unique experiences abroad. Using just a smartphone, I crafted a heartfelt narrative that highlighted the strength and resilience of these women, demonstrating how powerful stories can be told with the simplest tools. The project was well-received for its authenticity and message.
Filming with a smartphone presented both challenges and opportunities. While it limited some technical possibilities, it also allowed us to focus on the essence of the story and the people at the heart of it. This approach emphasized creativity and resourcefulness, proving that impactful filmmaking doesn’t require expensive equipment but a strong, meaningful message.
